I walk into a room, and for this industry, I’m impossibly tall. When they find it hard to pair you up with the opposite sex, then what’s left for a woman? Either you’re the ball-buster or the not-so-attractive girlfriend standing by the lead. I mean, traditionally not so attractive. Because you have your starlets and then you have their best friends who are these character actresses. When you fall within the cracks, you thank God for sci-fi, because they’ll give you a gun, and they’ll say, ‘Go over there and conquer that world. You kick some ass, girl!’

And it was really good and I really liked it except a lot of things were bad, but Uhura and Carol were badass, although there were a lot of scenes and lines I could have done without? IDK. There were some pretty bad ones obviously and there is some seriously unnecessary fanservice that I HATED. JJ Abrams admitted it was “a bit sexist” which, I mean, if you realize that, idk, you should fix it?
But Kirk and Spock were total bros. I promptly watched Star Trek: Wrath of Khan and oh baby. This lovely person has promised me art of Cumberbatch in the original Khan costume. I was surprised by how much of Into Darkness was taken from WoK. Man. That scene? The feels scene? Its basically 100% from WoK. I dug it. Now CPine and Quinto just need to go save whales.
Also, in my google searching of everything, I ran across this. An account of how MLK Jr. convinced Uhura to stay on Star Trek. It’s awesome. -
